Skydiving FAQ

To get instructions for the TerraSport III parachutes, click the parachute, then click Help.

Why won't my parachute open/close?

This is most commonly caused by skydiving over "no script" land. The parachute parts use scripts to open or close, so if scripts aren't permitted, the parachute will get stuck. When you are in no-script land, a "no script" icon appears on the menu bar: a red circle with a page on it. Solution: teleport to a place that allows scripts, like Abbotts Aerodrome.

When I land at a target, why doesn't it record my score over the target?

The target records scores by measuring the distance between your landing flag and the centre of the target. If you land in a "no build" area, your parachute can't drop a flag to mark the spot. When you're in no-build land, an icon appears on the menu bar: a red circle with a box on it. Solution: teleport ot a place that allows object creation ("build").

Why aren't my statistics appearing on the Skydiving Statistics page?

There could be several reasons for this.

  • Do you have a TerraSport III or TerraSport III Pro parachute? Only these parachutes send jump data to the server.
  • Is your parachute's "Log" feature on? To check, click your parachute to open the menu, then click "Log...".
  • It's possible that the region you're in is having problems. Try another region. If it works elsewhere, then report the problem to Linden Lab, who can repair the region.
  • If you've tried all of the above, and it still doesn't work, contact Cubey Terra by IM.

When I play Terra BubbleTargets, some of the target spheres get stuck over my neighbour's land. Why won't they go away?

Check to see if your neighbour's land permits scripts. The targets clean themselves up using a timer script, which won't run in no-script areas. If your neighbour doesn't wish to allow scripts, then reduce the "radius" setting in the BubbleTargets menu, so that the targets stay within your own land.

Why do I float up when I open my parachute?

You might be wearing another scripted attachment that exerts an upward force -- maybe an antigravity device or a shield. It's best to disable or remove them before you skydive.

Aircraft FAQ

For most aircraft, you can get instructions by saying HELP in chat while seated in the vehicle.

Why won't my vehicle move, even though all the scripts are running?

If you can see that your throttle and other controls are working, but your vehicle isn't moving, check for these things:

  • Is any part of your vehicle -- like a wing -- touching an object? SL doesn't allow objects to use physics if they touch. Move your aircraft clear of objects and try again.
  • If you're in a private estate (an island sim), there's a checkbox  labeled "Collisions" that's used only for debug reasons. If collisions are off, then physics objects like vehicles will not behave correctly.

Why does my aircraft appear to fall to the ground when I cross a sim border?

This is one of the many and varied symptoms of "lag", and there's little that we users can do about it. When a vehicle crosses a border, the first sim has to hand off all of the objects data and script states to the second sim. This transfer is usually less than a second, but in some cases can be several seconds. It's not unknown to become disconnected from both sims just by crossing a border, with or without a vehicle. During the handoff, the SL attempts to predict the path of your vehicle ballistically, so you will appear to fall.
If you have problems with unusual delays or disconnections while crossing a border, contact SL support: support@secondlife.com.

If SL vehicles aren't transferable, how can I buy one for a friend?

The best way to buy a vehicle as a gift for someone is to shop at SL Exchange or SL Boutique. They have options to deliver the item to almost anyone.

Can my friend fly my plane when I'm not around?

Most Terra aircraft are keyed to their owner. Unless the instructions state otherwise, only the owner can fly the aircraft.
